We have run a London office alongside our East Sussex head office for many years, and much of our work has always been in the capital. Transport for London, London Underground, the BBC, English Heritage and several London boroughs are all on our client list.

London brings its own constraints that have nothing to do with lightning. Roof access is usually over occupied floors. Getting a MEWP into position may need a footway licence. Listed status and conservation areas cover a lot of the central boroughs, so conductor routes need approval as well as design. Work often has to happen outside trading or office hours.

None of that is unusual for us. It is most of what we do.

Heritage in the capital

A large share of central London is listed or sits in a conservation area, which means the lightning protection question is rarely just technical. The system has to satisfy BS EN 62305 and be acceptable to a conservation officer at the same time.

Our steeplejack background is genuinely useful here. Towers, spires and monuments are structures we can get onto and work on without wrapping them in scaffold.

Do you cover all of London?

Yes. We have a London office at 26 York Street, W1, alongside our head office near Crowborough in East Sussex, and we work across Greater London and the surrounding counties.

Have you worked on London landmarks?

Our client list includes Transport for London, London Underground, the BBC, English Heritage and a number of London boroughs. Our engineers have worked at height on well known London structures, which is the sort of work our steeplejack background prepared us for.

Can you work out of hours in central London?

Yes, and on many central sites it is the only workable option. Roof access over occupied offices, retail trading hours, and highway or footway closures for access equipment all tend to push work into evenings and weekends. We programme around that.

How quickly can you attend after a strike?

Tell us the address and what happened and we will arrange an inspection. Post strike inspection is a specific piece of work, not just the annual test brought forward, because we are looking for damage along the current path as well as checking the system still functions.
